Ambrosia Maple is the traditional name for a form of red maple found locally in Maryland and Virginia. It has distinctive long, tapered streaks running with the grain with contrasting brownish-grey hues. This striking coloration is also sometimes called Ghost Maple or Wormy Maple. Where our handsome clear satin finish doesn’t fit in with room décor, we offer custom options of cherry, rosewood or black. Coloring maple is surprisingly tricky; standard wood stains give very mixed results. So we hired a finishing specialist to work with the Amish to develop for us special toned-lacquer blends with a multi-step finish tailored to the unique problems of staining Ambrosia maple. And the results are stunning! Natural Cherry matches wonderfully with many warmer, golden-hued finishes and doesn’t obscure the distinctive grain of our maple. Deep Rosewood is a rich, translucent dark red. Satin Black is an elegant, opaque finish that hides natural wood grain.
